Author, historian and broadcaster. Born in Harrow, England, he migrated to Western Australia in 1912 with his family, settling in Victoria Park. Later he moved to the South-West where he worked at tree-felling and land clearing on Group Settlements from 1922 to 1929. He became a plumber, eventually managing his own business as a master plumber. During World War II, he was stationed at Pearce and Busselton Air Force Stations. Murdoch, Walter, Sir, 1874-1970

Sir Walter Murdoch was born in Scotland, educated at the University of Melbourne, and lectured there from 1904 to 1911. In 1913 he became the first professor of English at the University of Western Australia, and retired in 1939. Between 1943 and 1947, he was UWA's chancellor.
